The Problem
Grief is the normal and natural reaction to significant emotional loss of any kind. Unfortunately, much of the information available within our society about how to deal with grief is not normal, not natural, and not helpful in that it doesn’t help us to recover.
Grief is emotional, but society has taught us to deal with loss using our intellect, or worse yet, not to deal with it at all.
Myths
There are several widely believed myths about grief that limit our ability to recover from loss. They are:
- Don’t feel bad
- Replace the loss
- Grieve alone
- Be strong/strong for others
- Time heals/just takes time
- Keep busy
Trying to live according to these any of these myths will severely limit one’s ability to recover from loss; leaving a grieving person feeling lost, isolated, and stuck.
Unresolved Grief
The losses we experience in our lives from which we do not effectively recover are stored inside of us as emotional energy. This unresolved grief can have a lifelong negative impact on our ability to experience healthy interpersonal relationships.
The Solution
The Grief Recovery Method is an evidence-informed, practice-based program that has been shown to effectively influence components of grief and grief recovery. It is the most thorough and helpful set of actions to deal with all kinds of loss issues, and can be accomplished in very little time.
